FSU Football and NFL Player-Turned Neurosurgeon to Keynote in Tampa, FL

Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL (July 12, 2024) – The Hydrocephalus Association is thrilled to announce that Dr. Myron Rolle, a former Florida State University Football standout and NFL player turned neurosurgeon, will be the keynote speaker on Saturday, July 27, at the upcoming HA CONNECT National Conference on Hydrocephalus. The event, presented by USF Health and Tampa General Hospital, will be held at the Tampa Marriott Water Street.

Now a resident of the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, Dr. Rolle has recently been appointed as the Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellow at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. He will be delivering the keynote address and signing copies of his book, “The 2% Way,” for the community.

Dr. Rolle’s journey from the football field to the operating room is truly inspiring. Transitioning from playing football at the highest level and facing potential injuries like concussions to becoming a neurosurgeon is nothing short of extraordinary. His firsthand experience with the physical demands of the sport adds a compelling dimension to his work, as he now helps patients with similar injuries.

A graduate of FSU College of Medicine, he served as the Paul Farmer Global Neurosurgery Fellow at Harvard and completed his neurosurgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. In his current role as Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellow at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Dr. Rolle continues to impact lives, both locally and globally.

Dr. Rolle is a dedicated advocate for various social causes. He has served on the Florida Healthy Choices Board, the Knight Commission Board on Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Orange County Affordable Housing Advisory Board. His advocacy includes mental health with Aspire Health Partners, road traffic safety, early education, collegiate voter registration, and food insecurity in Orlando. He has also testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on compensating college athletes.

Dr. Rolle’s athletic accomplishments are equally impressive. At Florida State University (FSU), he earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) honors, ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Associated Press 3rd team All-American honors. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, enabling him to study at Oxford University in England. After earning a master’s degree in medical anthropology at Oxford, he was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 2010 NFL Draft and later played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dr. Rolle’s book, “The 2% Way,” explores his philosophy of achieving success through small, incremental improvements—a philosophy that guided him through his diverse and distinguished career. Attendees at HA CONNECT will have the unique opportunity to hear Dr. Rolle’s inspiring story firsthand and gain insights from his experiences.

Join us at HA CONNECT to meet Dr. Myron Rolle and learn more about his incredible journey from NFL star to neurosurgeon. This event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
