Safety of Combined Therapy with Erythropoietin and Melatonin for Preterm Infants with Intraventricular Hemorrhage (SCEMPI)

Locations: Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), Baltimore, MD; Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital NICU, St. Petersburg, FL
Recruiting: within the Johns Hopkins NICUs or from a regional NICU (NICU transfer requests to Johns Hopkins must be initiated by the neonatologist in the regional NICU)
Eligibility: Babies born prematurely after 22 weeks and before 32 weeks gestation who have had a severe brain bleed seen on head ultrasound that was done within the first 21 days of life. For this clinical trial, a significant bleed is defined as at least a grade II IVH on at least one side of the brain.
