This September, join us for Hydrocephalus Awareness Month (HAM) as we celebrate the voices, experiences, and journeys that make our community unique. This year’s theme, “What Hydrocephalus Means to Me” puts your stories at the heart of awareness.
Hydrocephalus means something different to everyone. It can be reflected in a scar, a shunt, a milestone reached, a difficult day overcome, a piece of art, a photograph, or a story that deserves to be heard. Throughout September, we’re inviting people with hydrocephalus, families, caregivers, and supporters to show the world what hydrocephalus means to them.
Each week, we’ll highlight a different part of the hydrocephalus journey—from creative expressions and personal stories to milestones and wins, scars, shunts, and scans. We’ll share community submissions alongside educational resources and facts that help others better understand the many ways hydrocephalus can impact a life.
Every story matters. Every journey is unique. Whether you share a photo, artwork, poem, personal reflection, milestone, or simply help spread the word, you can be part of making hydrocephalus more visible this September.
Follow along, share your story, and help us show the world: this is hydrocephalus.
SEPTEMBER 20 IS WORLD HYDROCEPHALUS DAY!
On September 20, 2026, the world will come together to observe World Hydrocephalus Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about hydrocephalus and showing support for individuals living with this complex neurological condition.
Light Up Blue for Hydrocephalus!
Help us light up the world for hydrocephalus!
We’re asking our community to help make Hydrocephalus Awareness Month more visible than ever by requesting that landmarks in your area light up blue this September or on World Hydrocephalus Day, September 20.
Whether it’s a local landmark, bridge, business, or municipal building, every blue light can help spark conversations, raise awareness, and show support for people impacted by hydrocephalus.
Ready to light up your community? Use our resources to reach out to local landmarks and organizations and help turn your town blue for hydrocephalus.
Fundraise
Facebook makes it easy for you to raise money for HA and invite friends and family to help. 100% of the funds you raise will be delivered to us.
RESEARCH
Researchers need input from patients in order to ask the right questions and develop treatments that will benefit our entire community.
DONATE
Your gift directly advances the mission of HA to find a cure for hydrocephalus and improve the lives of those impacted by the condition.
Over 1 million people are living with hydrocephalus, a complex, life-threatening condition marked by excess accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid on the brain. There is no way to prevent hydrocephalus and there is no cure. The only known treatment requires brain surgery.
Join us this September to raise awareness for hydrocephalus!
