A Mother’s Love, Andrea
By Alexandrea, diagnosed at 6 weeks (who is non-verbal) written by Jenifer

How do you say thank you to your mother for everything that she has done for you when you can’t speak? How do you say thank you to your mother who has given up so much for you and has truly asked for so little in return? Well you enlist the help of your identical twin sister. Mom, I am writing this for you on behalf of Alexandrea.

Words cannot express how much love and gratitude I feel for everything you have done for me throughout my life and for all of the support you have given me. We truly have been through so much. Our struggles with chronic Hydrocephalus and its challenges, obstacles, hardships and effects that it has had on our family have not been easy, however throughout this whole time, you have not given up on me and our family. You have stood by me and held my hand and were my rock. Mom for that I am truly grateful.

Mom, from very on you made it extremely clear to every one that you were never going to give up on me. You made it very clear that you were going to do whatever it takes to keep me going. You made me laugh when all I wanted to do was cry. You laid in bed with me, you rubbed my hand, you washed my hair, you kept vigil by my bed when the doctors didn’t think I would make it, and you spent holidays in the hospital, for all of this I thank you.

Mom because of you and all of your love and support and dedication and you being my full-time caregiver through the 200 plus shunt revisions I will be 35 and I am alive today and for that I thank you! You are truly an amazing woman. You are one of my main cheerleaders, my voice, and my advocate. If it wasn’t for your determination, your will to fight for my quality of life and you standing by me I would not be here today!

Mom, I know there were many times you were overwhelmed, and worn out. There were times when you felt you couldn’t do this anymore, yet you continued to go on, never showing your true feelings.

Thank you for never giving up on me and for giving me the best life possible. Thank for always knowing when to make me smile. Thank you for always fighting for me and never giving up on me. I know that when I need you, when I turn my head you will be right their, holding my hand and telling me everything will be ok. I love you!!
