Dana Moore, PhD

2009 Mentored Young Investigator Award Recipient

TITLE: Neuropsychologist

STUDY TITLE: Quantitative measurement of ventricular volume and cortical atrophy to improve diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).

Overview:

During the time of her grant, Dr. Moore was a Postdoctoral Fellow in neuropsychology at Weill Cornell Medical College. She received a B.A. in psychology from State University of New York at Geneseo, a M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Suffolk University. She had a pre-doctoral internship in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology and a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation research from Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Her study aimed to improve diagnosis of NPH through imaging. NPH is a chronic neurological disorder in adults, which is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other forms of dementia. If left untreated, NPH can lead to severe dementia and permanent brain damage, but if treated at an early stage the progression can be stopped and symptoms can improve. This is why it is so important to be able to distinguish NPH from other neurological disorders.
