Diagnosed at 2 Months

Rylie

Story Written by Mother

Rylie was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at 2 months old when her head began to swell at a rapid rate. She was rushed into an emergency to place her first shunt. At that time, they also discovered that Rylie had bilateral subdural hematomas and the bleeds were very significant.

Her doctors were unsure if she would make it through the surgery. She had 3 shunt revisions in just 3 short months. She spent the majority of her infancy in the hospital and required multiple blood transfusions in connection to her surgeries. The damage to Rylie’s brain has caused other issues in her development such as visual issues, dysphagia, and sensory disorders.

Despite all she has been through, Rylie is a bright and bubbly 3-year-old who loves to laugh and play. She enjoys going to preschool, reading, shopping dates with Mommy, and playing Batman with Daddy.

Rylie is our miracle baby!
