Dr. James Goodrich

Ever wanted to know more about the history of hydrocephalus? When was it discovered? How has it evolved over the last 2500 years? Would you like to know more about the work of Dr. Hakim? How about the humble beginnings the Hydrocephalus Association? Well, we invite you to attend the 12th National Conference in Bethesda, MD to hear James Goodrich MD, Carlos Hakim MD, Marion Walker MD and Emily Fudge, HA Founder during their special session: Historical Perspective of Hydrocephalus and its treatment & HA History: 1983 – 2012 – then, now and the future

Dr. James Goodrich will explain the treatment of hydrocephalus as it has evolved over the last 2500 years. Up until the 18th century hydrocephalus, as a clinical disorder, was not well understood nor well treated. In the reviewing the history of hydrocephalus one will see how poorly treated this disorder has been treated in the past. Successful surgical treatment of hydrocephalus has really only evolved within the last 50 years.

Dr. Carlos Hakim will be talking about the historical perspective of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, its first description by Dr. Salomon Hakim and the original theories behind it.

HA Founder, Emily Fudge, will share the history of the Hydrocephalus Association – the journey from a small group of parents getting together to the largest national hydrocephalus specific organization.

We invite you to attend and learn. Knowledge is power! The registration is still open.
