Research Programs Manager Ashly Westrick and CEO Dawn Mancuso are attending the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Advisory Council meeting on the NIH campus right now.
“We are hearing reports from NINDS Director Dr. Story Landis and others from NINDS on important topics such as the potential effects on important research from the impending sequestration budget cuts,” reported Mancuso. “Congress needs to understand that the research community can’t simply cut back its efforts for one year and then rebound easily the next. The results of these budget cuts will close some labs and mean the loss of animal models. Patients suffering from the debilitating diseases and conditions that are the focus of these research initiatives can’t afford to have the current progress take a step backwards.”
