TITLE: Assistant Professor, Wayne State University

GOAL: Creating a shunt catheter that does not block.

Overview:

Dr. Carolyn Harris is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University. Her research is focused on understanding the reasons shunt fail on a molecular level. The goal of this project is to test a new shunt coating that stop cells from attaching to the shunt. The coating is different from other coatings that have been tried in that this coating blocks the specific ways that cells attach. The work will be completed in collaboration with a research group at Washington University in St. Louis.
