Michael Piper, PhD

2015 Innovator Award Recipient

TITLE: Australian Research Council Future Fellow, University of Queensland

GOAL:  Understand brain development and hydrocephalus.

Overview:

Dr. Michael Piper is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow at the University of Queensland. Dr. Piper’s work is focused on how a few initial cells divide and differentiate to form a complete brain. In his study, Analysis of the role of NFIX in the development of hydrocephalus, Dr. Piper will determine how reduced expression of a transcription factor, important for normal brain development, leads to the development of hydrocephalus. By understanding brain development in the context of hydrocephalus, new drug targets may be identified that prevent or repair initial mal-development. This award was made possible through the generous support of Team Hydro.
