Hydrocephalus Association Research Grants
In 2009, the Association proudly to launched a Research Initiative (RI) which broadened our strategic impact by raising money to give away in the form of grants to support worthy, innovative and relevant research.
The Hydrocephalus Association Research Initiative (RI) is guided by the mission of the HA, which now includes research as a central pillar alongside support, education, and advocacy. The specific mission of the RI is to fund research that improves the quality of life for people living with hydrocephalus and finds ways to prevent or cure hydrocephalus.
In 2009, the first year of this exciting new program, the Association focused research funding through a Mentored Young Investigator Award program. This mechanism fulfills the dual purpose of funding promising research relevant to hydrocephalus while fostering the development of young researchers under the guidance of experienced researchers so that the young researchers become independent researchers with an enduring focus on hydrocephalus. This approach will address the shortage of hydrocephalus-focused researchers while supporting seasoned investigators who will serve as the mentors. The specific aims of the grants will not be limited as one of our goals is to discover and support innovative thinking.
