12th National Conference on Hydrocephalus

The Hydrocephalus Association held it’s 12th National Conference on Hydrocephalus in Bethesda, MD from June 27th through July 1st, 2012. As always we gathered to re-establish our sense of community and educate ourselves about hydrocephalus.
Conference Highlights:
| Advocacy Day On Thursday, June 28th, over 200 participants visited their congressional representatives to lobby for increased funding for hydrocephalus research. The day ended with a welcome reception on Capitol Hill and Chairman of the HA Board of Directors Paul Gross gave out our first ever Public Service Awards. |

| Keynote Speaker Mark Kelly is an American astronaut, retired US Navy Captain, best selling-author and an experienced naval aviator who flew combat missions during the Gulf War. On Friday the 29th he gave an amazing motivational keynote speech that set a tone of inspiration throughout the rest of the conference. |

| Inspirational Keynote Speaker Benjamin Warf, MD delivered his Inspirational Keynote Address to a rapt audience. Dr. Warf is an Associate in Neurosurgery and the Director of Neonatal and Congenital Anomaly Neurosurgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. His talk centered on his exciting and ground breaking work treating hydrocephalus in Sub-Saharan Africa. |

| Scientific Keynote Speaker Dr. Story C. Landis, Director of the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), was the Scientific Keynote Speaker at our conference. Dr. Landis addressed the importance of hydrocephalus research and how this research fits into NINDS’ mission. |
