Form of Neonatal Hydrocephalus Caused by Cell Signaling Defect

The American Academy of Neurology reports on a study of Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS), originally published in Natural Medicine, that found that a form of neonatal hydrocephalus could be caused by cellular signaling defects. The condition could potentially be improved by giving lithium. The study is led by Val C. Sheffield, MD, PhD, professor of pediatrics and director of the Division of Medical Genetics at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.

Thank you for the concise and wonderful newsletter I read each publication. You cover an amazing amount of avenues with this condition. However, I only have one thought and that is that there are not many updates regarding adult onset Hydrocephalus and seem to focus on the young. I understand that there are many more younger individual with this but there are also those older mature adults that I hear of more often that it seems to be occurring. More on that would be so appreciated.

Again, thank you all for your dedicated work.

Rosemary, thank you for your comment. Yes. In this issue we have a very active youth presence. We are proud of them for that! But we have many wonderful NPH members blogging for us this year so please stay tuned!
